Originally from Brighton, MI, Mrs. Stanley has been living in the Grand Rapids area now for 8 years. She graduated magna cum laude from the Frederick Meijer Honors College at Grand Valley State University with her Bachelors of Arts degree in English, mathematics, and Spanish after making the Dean's List every semester. While in college, she was a member of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society and was honored with the Excellence-in-a-Discipline Award as selected by the College of Education faculty.
Mrs. Stanley has traveled and studied abroad in Costa Rica where she strengthened her language skills and backpacked the Costa Rican countryside. She worked as a college writing consultant for three years, and has also volunteered with the Lake Michigan Writing Project as the camp college intern. After college, Mrs. Stanley spent two years teaching middle school in the metro-Grand Rapids area. Now, she is delighted to be returning to the WMAA community for her second year here and is looking forward to helping cultivate her students' passion for learning.
In her spare time, Mrs. Stanley co-advises the WMAA Drama Club and serves as adviser of the WMAA Newspaper Club, Aviator's Daily. Mrs. Stanley also enjoys playing sand volleyball, traveling and going on hikes with her husband and Tamaskan dog Loki, and of course, finding new books to curl up with and read.
